Within the confines of the project, free time programs were implemented that based on local characteristics, traditions, cultural and natural values. The most important programs were the summer holiday camps, before which such one-day-long programs were organized that introduced the local culture and values.

The direct aim of the project was to organize and implement such summer holiday camps and free time programs that based on tradition care and environmentally conscious education. These programs were planned not only to provide the participants having a good time but to preserve traditions and strengthening the communal togetherness. The longer-term-aims of the camps were to preserve and transmit the local minor crafts and traditions to the younger generations, especially to the teenagers. Another aim of the programs was to make the region become stronger to retain its population by improving the local identity.

Within the confines of the program series, two one-day-long programs were implemented by the name “Get to know the museum!” in the autumn-winter season of 2013. The participants could get to know the collection of the museum, local minor crafts and could take part in tradition care sessions. From 30th of June to 18th of July 2014, in the tradition care camps, children could interactively get to know the local ethnographic collection handled by the Foundation, and also get to know the museum and the typical cultural and natural values of the region.

They could try out the local minor crafts (basketwork, soap-making, pottery) and could see a folk dance show performed by the local school students. By the help of the 2 hand wheat mills, 1 jam cooker and 2 cheese presses, which were purchased for the camps, we could make local products according to our grandmothers’ recipes. The children could take part in the trips on the “Millér-side study path”, furthermore they could see the built values of the region and a riding archer show too.

The team

Local communities strengthen each other. A great occassion for this is the summerly organized Village Reasearch Camp, where participants can discover the history of the region. At one of these occassions, we chose the local sport life to examine.

We found a forgotten hero, Dr. Ferenc Varga, the establisher of the Besenyszög Sport Association, general doctor, who organized the active sport life for any age in Besenyszög.

All the three members of the team are students in secondary school. All of them were born here and studied in the same primary school: Chiovini Ferenc Kolping Catholic Primary School, Primary School of Arts in Besenyszög. This school is famous for respecting and transmitting the local traditions. A very important part of the lives of Besenyszög people is to keep old traditions (like e.g. using natural materials, learning minor crafts, making local products etc.) alive and weave them into the texture of everyday-activities.

Introduction

Dr. Ferenc Varga used to play handball during his studies at the Újszeged Primary School, then he used to do athtletics during the secondary school years. He was a javelin thrower champion of Csongrád county. Later, he used to play football as a striker, in the team UTC. He got to love sports during these years. He graduated as a doctor at the Medical University of Szeged, in 1963. In the same year, he was promoted to be a central intern at the I. Medical Department of County Hospital in Szolnok and he also became the leader of the laboratory of National Public Health and Medical Officer Service. In December of 1963, he applied for the medical position of District II. in Besenyszög, where he was promoted on 1st of January. Not only did he bring his medical knowledge and experience to Besenyszög, but his football love as well. In the underdeveloped village, the young doctor had a lot of room for his ideas.

He decided to organize a football team for Besenyszög. Ha found some cheerful boys who were involved in the team. In the middle of the village, a fenced football field was created from a goose pasture, then he planned a dressing room that was built up by volunteers. A handball field was also built next to the football field. “Doctor Varga” dag, concreted and shoveled with the football players. If they needed money, they worked at the collective farm just to get building subsidy. The sport association, he established, had 110 members at that time. Dr. Ferenc Varga made the football team successful beside the construction, the development and his medical duties.

In a short time, the team got the chance to play in the county II. class. The trainer, seeing the success of the football team, also founded the handball team, but it disbanded due to lack of trainer. That’s why Dr. Ferenc Varga decided to get qualified as trainer. In 1971, he awarded for being an Outstanding Worker of PE and Sports.

Dr. Ferenc Varga worked as general doctor within 30 km, he always travelled by bike and on foot, later by riding horse, never caring about the weather. The doctor’s offices of the surrounding villages are also established by him.

In Besenyszög, a topic of the IV. Village Research Camp was the football of old times in Besenyszög, which Dr. Ferenc Varga was also invited to, so the children could get known him closer and they could play football with the sometime coach and the founder football players. On 20th of June 2009, Dr. Ferenc Varga, as the ex-doctor of the village,  was given the title of “Honorary Citizen of Besenyszög”. On 13th of November 2013, on the occasion of the half-centurial jubilee, University of Szeged gave him Golden Certificate for his degree had been got in 1963. On 13th of December, on the suggestion of the committee of Csongrád County Assembly, he was awarded with the “For Csongrád County” Medallion. When Dr. Ferenc Varga was assigned, he left such an organized sport life in Besenyszög that is still living.

Introducing the plan

In the town of Besenyszög, there have been a sport association since 1964. The area of the sport field is suitable by quality for national games. In spite of financial problems and out-of-date environment, citizens of Besenyszög do still keen on sports (eg. football, volleyball, handball, rowing, archery and riding horse). The like participating in sport communities, because it makes the team spirit and the togetherness stronger. The are motivated by their love for sports that makes them fight for better achievement.

Towards the development of sport activity, it would be useful to renovate the school gymnasium or to build a new sports-court, so the young sportsmen could improve their skills in modern, orderly environment, under suitable circumstances. It would be the base of healthy life and love for sports. A new sports-court would motivate the town citizens to do sports actively. To motivate the people surrounding us, a Charity Sport Event should be organized. Involving media and permitting public trainings also would be motivating for more generations.

Within the confines of the football section of the sport association, we would like to organizing a “generation football” among different ages. For instance: grandfather, father and son would play (and even train) in the same team. Players’ family members would spend their free-time usefully. A new, community-developing concept would come to life that would strenghten the intergenerational attachment.

The aim of the project

The aim of our project was to bring new colors into the active social life and the tradition care of Besenyszög. Such a color that is also a bridge and which, in addition to the love of football, also serves to strengthening the relationship between generations. A place and an occasion where children and adults, men and women, old and young, can feel right at the same time. One of our goals is to develop the sport culture of our young children, while the "great old people" have direct learning opportunities. In order to achieve our goals, we contacted the leaders and sponsors of the Sports Association of Besenyszög.

According to our agreement, we would make a multi-generation football team within the football division. In addition to the occasional and regular training, the contest also plays an important role. We analyzed an urban community event and looked into what programs people wanted to participate in. That was the starting point. From our analysis, it turned out that people in Besenyszög are happy to play sports and also have talents for them. The next step was to visit Dr. Ferenc Varga, who told us how he organized, mobilized Besenyszög it 50 years ago.

The mobilization was so successful that it still has an impact on the lives of the people / families in Besenyszög. Every year, during the town’s day, the "old boys" match is held, where the teams are made up of "football-ancestors". Celebrate anniversaries. On the 25th anniversary of the sports association, Jenő Buzánszki was a guest of Besenyszög. We contacted the management of the Sport Association of Besenyszög and the organizers of community activities. We talked about our idea of an intergenerational football match: grandfathers, boys and grandchildren in one team. The idea was awarded: the first intergenerational football match was held at the event of “Besenyszög-Majális”. The rules of the game have been laid down, and we started looking for sponsors and gathering former football players.
